Outline - Essay Example There, Michelangelo learned the technique of panel painting for a few months. He was supposed to stay there for not less than three years, but an extraordinary opportunity opened to him. At the recommendation of Ghirlandaio, he moved into the house of Florentine ruler Lorenzo the Magnificent. One of the powerful Medici families, where he studied classical sculpture in the Medici gardens (Poeschke 26). This is a great time for Michelangelo; his experience with the Medici group, permit him access to the social elite of Florence, which allowed him to learn under the respected sculptor Bertoldo di Giovanni, Donatellos pupil, and introducing him to prominent poets, Humanists and scholars . Piero de Medici initiates Michelangelo to the Augustinian friars from the Church of Saint Spirit in Florence, who was hosting the young talent within their convent. He was given a special permission to learn cadavers for insight into anatomy; through the introduction to corpses he had an adverse effect on his health. These combined factors laid the basis for what would become Michelangelos unique style: a muscular concept and reality combined with a touching beauty. As a sign of appreciation to the friars, Michelangelo made a wooden Crucifix, which is still inside the Church of Saint Spirit. Slightly before the Medici family were banished from Florence, Michelangelo moved to Bologna hosted by Gianfranco Aldrovandi and then to Venice, where he continued his studies of literature and sculpture practice. He returned to Florence in 1495 where he begun the work as a sculptor, modeling his style after masterpieces of classical antiquity, In 1496, Michelangelo moved to Rome because of the famous Sleeping Cupid affair that had made him a reputation. He hoped to find new donors for his creations. He started modeling a marble Bacchus, under the patronage of the banker Jacopo Galli. On August 27, 1498 Michelangelo signed his first break

Evaluate an Argument Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Evaluate an Argument - Essay Example Obama whether or not she believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman. In true politician form, Obama dodges the question and states that even though he believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman, homosexuals should also be provided the very same civil rights and privileges that married couples enjoy. Furthermore, when asked to define whether or not homosexuality was inherent, Sen. Obama once again does not deliver a direct answer in states that in most cases he believes it to be inherent but there are certain exceptions in which it is not. However, the true heart of the debate takes place when Alan Keyes is challenged based upon his definition for the purpose of marriage. Evidently, Sen. Obama direct to the audienceââ¬â¢s attention to the fact that Alan Keyes has made a particularly absurd statement with regard to the fact that marriage has only one goal; procreation. Accordingly, Sen. Obama asks Alan Keyes that if marriage has this solitary goal ââ¬â what is the purpose of individuals that are impotent, infertile, or otherwise aged and cannot have children being married? Alan Keyes resorts to his profound knowledge of logic and argument and unleashed a barrage of doublespeak in which he attempted to state that the goal of marriage is procreation but even those that cannot procreate still have a right to be married. Accordingly, Sen. Obama points to the logical inconsistency that is represented within this particular view; namely the fact that Alan Keyes wishes to state that marriage is solely intended for the active procreation ââ¬â however even though certain individuals cannot procreate ââ¬â marriage is still somehow right for them well. Finally, further differentiation of viewpoints is revealed with regards the way in which he compares with incest. According to Alan Keyes, the relationship between possible handset and they often do with the fact that the fertilization process of children adopted by lesbian couple leaves father

To Kill a Mocking Bird Essay Example for Free
To Kill a Mocking Bird Essay Socialising is a very complicated process, for we often make unjustified assumptions that lead to misunderstandings or even worst, it might even cause the innocents to suffer. In To Kill a Mocking Bird, it was demonstrated a number of times, both in court and in every day life, often caused by peoples limited observations skills causing misjudgements; Jem and Scout made that mistake, thinking his dad is old and feeble and maybe useless but in reality he is actually a great shooter who doesnt like to boast about his talents. I truly admire the Atticuss personality, he was not thought highly by his town folks because he was humble and was not bind by the fashion in town. Harper Lee had uncovered the truth of human nature; because of Atticuss appearance and modesty, he was not justified fairly. Just like the old saying goes, Dont judge a book by its cover, sadly, this is a philosophy that many cannot achieve. Inessential factors including bias, appearance racial hatred and so for always get in the way of justification, twisting the fact into the justifiers favor and that is when injustice happen. In To Kill a Mockingbird, this had happened a number of time, even children had inherited this bad vile trait, including the main characters- Jem and Scout. In chapter 10, it was demonstrated when they were justifying Atticus on p.98: Our father didnt do anything. He worked in an office, not in a drugstore. Atticus did not drive a dump truck for the county, he was not the sheriff, he did not farm, work in a garage, or do anything that could possibly arouse the admiration of anyone. Besides that, he wore glasses. From the above description, we can tell that Jem and Scout were judging Atticus with their measures for an admirable person. They were counting what Atticus was not instead of what he could do, in addition, they didnt know Atticus well enough to be able to make a judgment about him and they refused to listen to what others have to say about Atticus, in this case, its Miss Maudi. Jem and Scout were affected by prejudice and judged Atticus only based on his appearance and their own measures. Jem and Scout always thought his father-Atticus was weak and feeble only because he was different from the rest of the fathers in town; he was not very active like the other fathers were due to his old age. Jem was never satisfied with Atticus, because to him, he was not a exciting father he could be proud of, until he discovered Atticus outstanding shooting skill. Jem and Scout always thought they knew everything about Atticus until that incident, Scout was quite young so she could not understand it, whiled Jem had finally understand Atticus wisdom of modesty and displayed his maturity by stopping Scout from bragging about Atticus in front of their friends and said this interesting quote. Atticus is a gentleman, just like me. (Chapter 10 p.109) Jem and Scout was always disappointed their father because Atticus is different from the others but his opinion for him had gradually changed as he matured, and as it did, he finally came to an understanding of the real values a gentleman should posses. Atticus was a model father for his children and a great educator; he had earning respects from his fellow town folks, the readers and gradually, his children. He had always been thought as weak and feeble by his own children, but it changed right after his children discovered his nick name One shot Finch, their perspective for him has immediately changed. We could not completely blame his children for misjudging him; Atticus had hid his talents well with to his humble personality. I truly admire Atticuss great personality: he was a true gentleman and showed great wisdom and humbleness. Even though his talent was discovered by his children, he still refused to brag about it, this was shown in shown in chapter 10 p. 108 when Mr. Tate spoke to Jem Whats the matter with you, boy, cant you talk? said Mr. Tate grinning at Didnt you know your daddys Hush, Heck, said Atticus.' Atticus even stopped others from praising him, plus he still chose to keep his principles after he just prevented his neighbors from being attacked by a mad dog. Atticus was a great model for Jem and he greatly contributed to Jems grown in maturity. To Kill a Mockingbird had a timeless topic; similar versions of this story had appeared again and again in human history, where innocents almost always suffer. Harper Lee had exposed the ugly truth of human nature and the fact that injustice exists in this society often caused by some peoples ignorance or selfishness. Jem and Scout started of misjudging Atticus and fortunately, it was all cleared up after the incident with Jem finally understood the values of a gentleman. Jem and Scout were lucky to have Atticus as a father, he was a great educator and he tried his hardest to make sure they are safe, safe from the weaknesses in human nature. To Kill a Mockingbird was a well-written narrative; it flawlessly uncovered a variety of human nature- the finest of humanity as well as ugly human natures.

Viruses Spam Hacking Crowded inbox It can also know as netiquette i.e network etiquette. Today, business emails have become a routine in the work schedule. Writing business emails is not difficult but it is highly important to follow the email etiquette rules so that your email conveys the necessary information without any misunderstanding. Applying the basic etiquette to your emails will make your message professional and sincere. Remember, the business mails are different from your casual mails or forwards. The business emails should be precise, crisp and to the point, and easily understandable by the recipient. A badly written email may hamper not only the image of the individual sending it but also of the organization he belongs to. Here are some email etiquette rules to help you write a decent and professional email. BASIC GUIDELINES TO FOLLOW WHILE Emailing Rules of Email Etiquette Subject: The subject must be meaningful and relevant to the body text. The subject should easily tell the receiver what the email is about. Also, dont use URGENT/IMPORTANT in the subject line or even in the body text. Use it only if its really very urgent or important. Same rule applies to the high priority option. If you use the option repeatedly, after a while people will start ignoring your mails. Be Precise: Before you start writing the mail, consider the reason for sending it. Jot down the points to be covered in the mail. Now, be concise and to the point while you write the mail and at the same time, make sure you dont miss any point. Follow the same rule for the subject line, dont make it too long. Long emails, filled with unnecessary information can be irritating and the reader may leave it in between. Avoid Long Sentences: A sentence should be not more than 20 words. This will ensure better, easy and quick understanding of what you want to communicate. Language: Use right spellings, punctuations and grammar. Wrong use of these may not only affect the understanding of the receiver, as to what you want to communicate, but might also give a bad impression about your company. Use the spell check option, if available, and proofread it manually as well. Also, avoid using passive voice. All Caps: Never write the email text in CAPITALS. Doing so means that you are SHOUTING. This can lead to annoyance and unwanted responses or a flame mail too. Abbreviations and Emoticons: Use only globally recognized abbreviations. Use of casual abbreviations like LOL (laugh out loud) or BTW (by the way) is not appropriate in business emails. Similarly, avoid emoticons like the smiley :-). Formatting: While formatting the emails, be very careful. Remember, you want to have a simple looking email not an attractive one. Avoid unnecessary use of colored fonts, highlights, various font styles and sizes, bold, italics and underline options. If you use the color or highlight options, make sure that the text is easily visible. Layout: The layout and structure of the email is very important, especially when you have written a long mail. Make proper paragraphs according to the things to be discussed or communicated. Keep the paragraphs short and keep a blank line between each paragraph. If you write point-wise, number the points. This system will help the receiver while replying about disagreement or changes in a particular point. Attachments: Take utmost care that any unnecessary file or image has not been attached by you. Also, if you need to attach one, make sure it is the right one and you are not attaching something else in a hurry. Confirm whether the file and image format can be viewed at the receivers end. Try to compress attachments and do not send large attachments; that may lead to a problem at the receivers system. Signature: Email signatures can be funny or interesting quotations, your name with your designation, company name, address, contact details, etc., but they must be brief and not more than five lines. Extra long signature lines take up more space than the message itself and seem to be irritating. Include Disclaimers: Make sure that you include all the business disclaimers recommended by your company. If you don t include one, it can land you or your company into legal problems. Emails are Not For: Remember that your official email account should not be used for any personal communication. Also, dont use it to communicate confidential information and never include racially and sexually discriminating jokes or comments. Dont forward emails containing such language or hoax emails, spam emails and chain emails. You and your company might land in unnecessary trouble. Just delete them. Replying to Emails If you are replying to an email, you have to follow all the business email etiquette rules mentioned above. Some added points too need to be considered while doing so. Read Before You Hit Send: Though you are confident about your language and feel you have followed all the email etiquette rules, minute mistakes can still remain in your email. So, read the email once again before you hit the send button. Check whether you have attached the files required and also mentioned about them. Following the email etiquette rules will help you to send an effective message. It ensures that no misunderstandings and mistakes are created that may result into inappropriate comments for you. A simple mistake might lead to a big problem in email communication. So, always check and recheck, be sure and only then hit the send button. Why do you need email etiquette? A company needs to implement etiquette rules for the following three reasons: Professionalism: by using proper email language your company will convey a professional image. Efficiency: emails that get to the point are much more effective than poorly worded emails. Protection from liability: employee awareness of email risks will protect your company from costly law suits The language and presentation of your emails gives the reader a very strong impression of your professionalism and general abilities. There are certain rules which are to be applicable while writing email. As said first impression is the last impression therefore the subject line which majorly reflects the theme or content should be simple, concise and directly related to the content. Try not to use the cc: field unless the recipient in the cc: field knows why they are receiving a copy of the message. Focusing on the content of the email the writer must carefully choose their words to avoid giving the wrong impression or offending the reader. The recipient should be addressed by the appropriate titles. The user should not use slang terms, abbreviations, excessive ellipses, or write in all capitals or lowercase letters. Proper use of grammar and sentence structure is indicative of intelligence and professionalism. Think before Sending The proverb look before you leap should be remembered over here (look before your email leaps to the recipients inbox!). Check the content thoroughly, the attachments and the recipients address before sending the email. Anything incorrect could result in problems to both the parties. Format a standard à ¢Ã¢â ¬ÃÅ"signatureà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢ for emails which includes: full name, title, department, telephone numbers and e-mail address. Emails demand a prompt response. Reply to e-mails within 24 hours. An email reply must answer all questions. Do not attach unnecessary files. large attachments can annoy customers and even bring down their e-mail system Basically, you must keep in mind that there is a human being at the other end of your email messages. Remember to use the same manners as if you were talking to them in person. For most conversations, you will keep your messages short and to the point too, as it is common for persons eyes to get tired from looking at a computer screen.

Mid-Term Break - Seamus Heaney On my first Sonne - Ben Jonson Which Ess
Mid-Term Break - Seamus Heaney On my first Sonne - Ben Jonson Which poem expresses the experience of grief best? On my first Sonne is a very direct way of expressing the grief that occurs when a child in the family dies. It is about the feelings that Ben Jonson goes through, and the poem describes his emotions and thoughts in detail. On the other hand, Mid-Term Break uses indirect ways to portray grief, by describing events that happen after the death. "Farewell, thou child". On my first Sonne openly addresses the deceased boy in the poem. The poem is to him, and about him. Ben Jonson uses faith to help him through the bereavement. Biblical phrases ("child of my right hand", "my sinne was" and "all his vowes") are scattered through the text. Jonson's thoughts are deeply Christian ("tho'wert lent to me" and "the state he should envie"). "O, could I loose all father, now." Here he candidly expresses his feelings by crying out to God. He speaks bluntly about the grief he is experiencing, and tries to reason with it as well by using Christianity concepts, "For why / Will man lament the state he should envie?". He curses himself for putting too much love and faith into the boy, almost believing in him too much ("my sinne was too much hope of thee, lov'd boy"). I think that On my first Sonne is a poem towards God and the deceased, but it is written for the comfort of Ben Jonson himself, to reassure him about his son's death. The poem is very emotional, and very involved. On my first Sonne uses a regular rhythm, with occasionally rhymes. This creates a profound effect, and this in emphasised in certain places, for example "and I thee pay / Exacted by fate, on the just day." The regularity of the rhy... ... time to think about his brother's death, and then approaches his brother alone. The phrase "wearing a poppy bruise" has overtones of death (poppies are associated with Remembrance day), but also the fact that he is "wearing" a bruise rather than having a bruise indicates that he is not normally in that state, and the poet does not see him as such. The rhythm works best in this poem in the final line, "a four foot box, a foot for every year". The slow pace stresses the tragedy of the event, and gives an insight into the mind of the poet, after he has had a chance to think about it. In conclusion, I believe that the poem Mid-Term Break the experience of grief better than On my first Sonne, because I prefer an indirect approach to the emotions surrounding bereavement. The style of writing and context make it more modern, and makes it seem more relevant.

Virgin and Child with Four Angels by Gerard David Essay -- Paintings A
Virgin and Child with Four Angels by Gerard David The Virgin and Child with Four Angels was painted by Gerard David in about 1510, right in the middle of the Renaissance. The painting is rectangular in shape and appears to be about two feet long by maybe a foot and a half wide. It is oil painted on wood and it looks to be in very good condition. The painting is an image, as its title suggests, of the Virgin with the infant baby Jesus. This, of course, was a very common subject during the renaissance and for years before and after it. There are countless paintings of the Virgin and Child from that time period, probably because of the power and influence of the church at the time. People were much more involved in the church and, therefore, the subjects they painted or requested to be painted were typically religious themes. Many also felt that by commemorating such religious figures it might even help them gain a spot in heaven. In any case, in this particular version of the Virgin and Child there are also four angels in the scene - two who are flying above the Virgin holding a crown over her heard, and two who are sitting on either side of her playing instruments. Beyond her there is a large archway that opens into a landscape with a view of some grass and trees, some architecture, and some mountains in the far distance. The virgin is wearing a red garb and the baby Jesus is barely draped in some white cloth. That, of course, is a basic description at a quick glance. In examining the painting further, it becomes obvious that this is prime example of Renaissance painting. To begin with, the composition is completely balanced, almost symmetrical. The four angels are placed evenly around the Virgin, with two on each side. On one side an angel plays a harp and is balanced by an angel on the other side, strumming some type of guitar. The two flying above Mary are basically in the same position. Even the church in the background seems to be matched with a mountain in the distance. The columns and archway that border the painting are, in fact, completely symmetrical. And the Virgin and Child are in the center. It is, again, a beautifully balanced composition, typical of the Renaissance. The composition is also completely filled, but not overcrowded. Even with the flying angels, the painting appears rational; ... ...ead, which can also be seen on the wings of both of the angels holding it. Then again, that goldish hugh is seen in the instruments that then angels on both sides of Mary are playing. Blues and greens are used in a balanced manner throughout as well. On one side, the angel playing the harp is dressed in a light blue that is similar to the blue of the sky. The other angel is dressed in green, like the greens used in the trees and grass of the landscape beyond. The way these colors are painted, too, is very much in the style of the Renaissance. There is no visible brushstroke whatsoever. The entire painting is smooth, almost as if it wasn't really painted. This, too, adds to the realistic effect of the painting. The influence of the Italian Renaissance can clearly be seen in this painting by Gerard David. The composition is balanced; illusionism through perspective creates a recession in space; detailed modeling and shading make the painting appear realistic and human; vibrant colors are spread throughout; and a smooth, brushless texture adds to that realistic appearance. This work demonstrates the beauty and detail that was brought to if during the Renaissance.
Prejudice in ââ¬ÅOf Mice and Menââ¬Â Essay
ââ¬Å"Prejudices are the chains forged by ignorance to keep men apart. â⬠ââ¬â Marguerite Gardiner. In society, both modern and in the past, prejudice has been a tool of thinking and labeling a group of race, people, class and culture in order to distinguish ones superiority and dominance from one another, but is simply a way to judge without gathering valid facts. In Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, we see that prejudice was just as rampant in the 1930ââ¬â¢s. In the novel, prejudice is demonstrated on 3 different levels: racial, sexual and social. It is shown how these prejudices generate false perceptions that although meant to aid, do no such good as their end result is clouding the truth. Racial prejudice is most significant when describing Crooks, who happens to be the stable buck for the farm. Crooks is also a Black man with a back disability, hence the reason he is called ââ¬Å"Crooksâ⬠. While most of the other workers live in the same area and attend to jobs that are quite similar, Crooks is forced to live by himself, work alone in the stables and is almost never in contact with any of the other characters. People such as Curlyââ¬â¢s Wife go as far as to ridicule Crooks and even look down at him simply for the fact that he is a Black man with a disability who is a laborer. In one instance, Curlyââ¬â¢s Wife threatens Crooks by telling him ââ¬Å"Listen, Nigger, you know what I can do if you open your trap, I could get you strung up on a tree so easy it ainââ¬â¢t funnyâ⬠(Steinbeck, 98). The open brutality of this comment shows that even a woman, who would normally not have much or any say during this time in the 1930ââ¬â¢s, is still considered higher in social class than an African-American man. Nothing is known about him as a person by any of the other farm attendants, but the prejudices that in this case are completely false help propel a gap between them, when one does not need to be. Although he may be physically handicap, he is just as capable as any of the others. As a result of being an outcast at the farm, Crooks has become very isolated and disengaged with the other members. When Lennie enters Crooks cabin in order retrieve the puppies, Crooks lashes out and tells Lennie ââ¬Å"I ainââ¬â¢t wanted in the bunk room and you ainââ¬â¢t wanted in my roomâ⬠(Steinbeck,124). This comment shows that Crooks has become bitter and alone because of the prejudice constantly being aimed at him when there is no reason for the way he is treated. He is a great overall example of racial prejudice in Of Mice and Men and society, both past and present, in which a African-American male, who is as capable as any man of another color is denied the same opportunities because of stereotypes and perceptions which can only be supported with biased false facts. Sexual prejudice is strong when Curlyââ¬â¢s Wife is a part of a scene. Curlyââ¬â¢s Wife also happens to be the only female that is currently occupying the place of work that the novel is set in. Curlyââ¬â¢s Wife is presented as a character who tends to be very friendly with all the men on the farm and enjoys the attention she gets because her husband, Curly does not give her the amount of attention that she wants, so she finds it with others. Curlyââ¬â¢s Wife is often avoided by all other who work at the farm because she is a woman who could get them in a lot of trouble. Curly is the bossââ¬â¢ son and Curlyââ¬â¢s Wife being the daughter-in-law always gets her way and can have any man in the farm fired without reason. ââ¬Å"She got the eye goinââ¬â¢ all the time on everybody. I bet she even gives the stable buck they eye. I donââ¬â¢t know what the hell she wantsâ⬠(Steinbeck,51). Being a woman, there is already significant amount of sexual prejudice directed to her and the fact that she is very flirtatious with the other men further strengthens their perception of her. They all try to remain as calm as possible, careful not to give her the wrong idea cause they know the trouble that she could get them in. In actuality it appears that Curlyââ¬â¢s Wife only craves attention from the other men and nothing sexual because of the lack of her husband to give her the attention that she wants. The idea of her wanting something only sexual and not spiritual shows the prejudice associated with gender in this novel and how its falsehood prevents a lonely woman from engaging and connecting with others on a mental level. Equally important is the Social prejudice towards characters such as Candy and Lennie in Of Mice and Men. Candy is very old and not capable of doing much around the farm but is still kept around to do the simple chores that the others are seen as more of a waste of time for others. These simple chores are envied by others and this jealousy helps create a division between Candy and the others. Candy also has a dog that in many ways is similar to him ââ¬Å"[The] dog ainââ¬â¢t no good to himself. I wisht somebodyââ¬â¢d shoot me if I got old anââ¬â¢ a cripple (pg. 45). â⬠They are both described as being old, withered, confused and in many ways more of a nuisance who would do more good dead than alive. Socially being hated by the majority of the men at the ranch shows the prejudice that is directed without any reason, but simply motivated by jealousy. In the instance of Lennie, social prejudice is strongest evident in the perception others have of him because in their eyes, all they see is a big oaf incapable of accomplishing anything intelligent and only kept around for his strength. Before meeting Lennie and even engaging him in conversation, his position has already been established at the Ranch. With Curly we see that ââ¬Å"[Heââ¬â¢s] like a lot of little guys. He hates big guys. Heââ¬â¢s alla time picking scraps with big guys. Kind of like heââ¬â¢s mad at ââ¬â¢em because he ainââ¬â¢t a big guyâ⬠(pg. 26). Regardless of his ability to be of help at the farm, Curly already establishes his position on Lennie even though he has had no significant direct contact or enough time to accurately depict Lennie as a person and not just a big man physically. Not only Curly, but other members of the farm also have decided Lennieââ¬â¢s place at work before fully knowing him. He is left out of card games, left back at the ranch when George and the others go out to hand more important jobs. Being considered a simple minded men with little use who spend their days playing with and day dreaming about rabbits or sweeping after others, Lennie and Candy have become outcasts in the sense that one of them is perceived to be mentally unstable and added to the fact that he is physically strong, while the other one is a nuisance who many could live without, make them both isolated and all the more reason to be avoid and singled out. ââ¬Å"Of Mice and Menâ⬠is a brilliant novel in demonstrating that prejudice is a tool that people use to become more familiar with other individuals in order to overcome the fear of uncertainty. However, the ending result is that it puts distance between the person and the one they judge because it is not fact, but perception that is completely untrue. Prejudice is simply the reasoning of a fool to make themselves feel secure.
